About Human Rights series
Groom’s Man, Bridal Belles, Tiers of Joy
I have a collection of over one hundred mid-century “cake toppers” and display them prominently in my home. They are an extension of my interest in memory and souvenirs. Whether made of porcelain or plaster, manufactured in the United States, Japan or the then, West Germany, the bride is always on the left, the groom is always on the right. Such portrayals were the prevailing definition of marriage, throughout my lifetime.
Just prior to the landmark passing of the Marriage Equality Act of 2015, I produced a series of three prints in support of the broadening and emerging dialogue for marriage rights in our country.
